About us:
The Chair of Representational Methodology and Design at the University of Wuppertal develops and teaches techniques for computer-aided conception, visualization and materialization of architecture. The focus is on the research-based application and experience of computational design processes as a contribution to a worldwide discourse - but also to the expansion of our students' own space of possibilities. This is because digital design and fabrication tools have become an important driving force in the development of contemporary architecture, not only in terms of technology, but above all in terms of content and methodology. In dialogue with a parallel developing redefinition of architectural theory, the creative engagement with digital media has enabled architecture to achieve a special structural, atmospheric and formal complexity. This discourse on the potentials of digital tools, which has been going on for several decades, is in a rich field of tension with philosophical, scientific, technological and architectural-historical influences. It is the goal of the chair to contribute to this development in a critical and constructive way.
